Dare you spend 6 hours investigating the Oldest Inn in England??! We invite you to visit this wonderful establishment which was built allegedly in 1189, shortly after Nottingham Castle was built into the caves in 1068 - examination of the caves suggest that the original location of the Brewhouse was in the area of Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem. Two vertical passages through the rock emerge into the open air outside the Castle walls - one of which leads from the present upstairs Lounge of the Inn
What you can see from the outside is just a small part of the Inn's structure - there are several caves and hidden tunnels that run deep underground, areas that many people refuse to enter in daylight. The caves will be one of the many vigil locations throughout the evening.
Over the years, tales of mystery and paranormal activity have circulated, whilst it could be fairly easy to dismiss certain stories.. there are others far more difficult to dismiss! Staff have witnessed glasses and bottles flying off shelves, they have heard the sound of breaking glass but upon investigation found no cause. Items mysteriously disappear and then reappear in unusual places - the past owners have been awakened during the night by bumps, bangs and scratching sounds.
The cellar caves have been the scene of full apparitions, witnessed by several different paranormal groups. A few years ago, a group of 5 visitors all witnessed two Roman soldiers walking through a wall while on a tour of the caves!! One landlady also stated that she saw what could only be described as a grey mist walking past her in the cellar.
One area of the cellar is thought to have once been a condemned man's cell for the castle. People have reported a sense of despair and an atmosphere that both visitors and staff have described as being 'pure evil'. A gate that hangs from it's rusted hinges is the only clue to it's alleged use in centuries past.
Participate in a vigil in the Haunted Snug located at the far end of Yorkey’s Lounge. This cosy little room has succeeded in sending a shiver through many a folk over the years. Sitting above an unused basement area known as the ‘Secret Cellar’, the Haunted Snug was once a shop and has also been used to provide a bedroom facility for private quarters of the Inn.
Just when you think you are on your own you might feel a tap on the shoulder - other people have!
You have the chance to spend the night at the Inn & Caves and become a Paranormal Investigator for the evening where you could experience and record real paranormal activity.
The evening begins at 12.30am with a guided tour of the Inn where you will be told of all the ghostly phenomena that has occurred over the years. We will meet at 12pm in the yard area for a discussion and talk with our Psychic mediums prior to being allowed access to the whole building!
The night is action packed with workshops, vigils, demonstrations of psychic techniques and the use of ghost hunting equipment.
Our experienced and qualified staff, accompanied by a Psychic medium will be present at all times to place you in situations that could spark of ghostly activity.
The last hour of the night you will be given free time to conduct your own vigils and go to the areas you feel most drawn to.
The night finishes at 6:30am with a discussion about the night’s activities and evidence collected.
