The Whittington Inn was built in 1310 by Sir William De Whittington, he
was a knight of arms and the Grandfather of the famous Dick Whittington. At first it was named the
Whittington Manor, although in 1788 it became an Inn as it is known today. Lord Stamford
bought the licence and the old signboard from the original Whittington that was a few yards away it. The stunning
look and location of the inn is key to its popularity. Over its long years of life it has many tales to tell and has had a few famous
visitors.
