Alcatraz Prison
This notorious prison was once inhabited with the most
feared criminals in America, no wonder it has a reputation for being
haunted. From 1850 it was used by the Military conficts and then changed
to top security prison in the 1930s. It was designed to break the toughest
men and it did this. From being tortured to solitary confinement, many men
either went mad or killed themselves in the prison. More men took their
own lives and suffered mental breakdowns by percentage here than in any
other prison, men chopped off their own limbs, slit their own throats and
one spent almost 22 months in solitary confinement.
With only food, clothing, shelter and medical care to be
given to the men, they had to survive by earning extra items. Famous
criminals, such as Al Capone, George "Machine-Gun" Kelly, Alvin Karpis and
Arthur "Doc" Barker, Robert Stroud (the infamous Birdman) spent time in
Alcatraz. Mobsters in other prisons often managed to manipulate special
privileges from guards, but not at Alcatraz. Many say that Al Capone still
resides in the prison, he went in there being on of the most feared man
and ended up a damaged man, his fear of being murdered in the prison saw
him learning to play the banjo in the shower room. Many people have heard
banjo music coming from this room, could this be the ghost of Al Capone?
It was one of the toughest prisons to this day to ever
exist and no one ever escaped from the island. The inmates Coy, Cretzer
and Hubbard were plummeted with bullets after a failed prison escape.
Where they were shot is mean to be an area of paranormal activity. This is
deemed to be on of the most active areas in the utility corridor, in 1976
a night security guard claimed hearing unexplained eerie clanging sounds
coming from inside
More areas of the prison include the Strip Cell, this
was where the prisoners we in confinement, stripped of all their clothes,
only given bread and water once a day. You ended up down here if you had
not followed rules and regulations. Placed in the pitch dark, you would
soon begin to lose your state of mind.
The hole on D block was similar to the strip cell and
prisoners were kept here in solitary for up to 19 days.
One of the other areas of hauntings it cell 14 D, a
confict screamed all night as there was something in his cell killing him
with red eyes. The next day guards found him hanging from his cell having
been strangled. There were reports of seeing the same confict inline with
the prisoners after his death.
Other reports include hearing crying, moaning, gunshots,
unnatural cold spots in certain areas of the prison.
This infamous prison with its deadly past with one of
the toughest regimes, the toughest men in America were broken, subjected
to torture and confinement. The only form of release was to go insane or
to commit suicide -- the spirits of Alcatraz are violent and disturbed.
